What can I use to clean denture stains?
Hi! I’ve been in dentistry for over 25 years. Ideally you should brush the outside and inside of the denture at least once a day to prevent stain build-up. If the stains are really bad, your dentist can put them in an untra-sonic cleaner and that will remove most of the stains. If they are tough ones, he/she can remove them with a ultra-sonic hand held curette type water pik. However, you need to also soak them in a tablet cleaner at least 2-3 times a week to remove stains and odor build-up from plaque and food. Remember to rinse before putting them back in your mouth. Please do not use bleach as this will weaken the plastic and the cement that holds the teeth in place. I find that brushing with a medium tooth brush is fine. And not too hard as it can scratch the plastic. Just be patient and work carefully and not too hard. Make sure you put a towel down as if you drop the denture in the sink it can break in 2.
