No Glue Dentures
Is it normal for a dental bridge to not touch the gum?
I have recently had a bridge fitted to replace the 4 upper front teeth and glued to the two eye teeth. The bridge does not touch the gum above the replaced teeth. The dentist says that the bridge will slightly irritate the gum and cause it to fill in, but how can that happen if it’s not touching? It’s been a month now, and no sign of infill. I can’t talk normally with this air gap. The bridge replaces a partial denture, so the gum is the way it’s been for many years.
To give more detail, dentist said the bridge has a special surface finish that is meant to slightly irritate the gum and cause it to form a callous. But I can’t see how it will irritate if it doesn’t touch…
usually the crowns are fitted below the gum level, subgingivally.
