Do Dentures Affect Your Taste

Did getting dentures affect your eating habits?

Food just doesn’t taste as good? Somethings like ribs and nuts harder to eat? Don’t like dining out as much do to difficulties with choppers?
Does anyone have implants? How are they working for you? I realize they are quite expensive.

Getting used to dentures takes time. There are a lot of adjustments to make both physically and emotionally. It is very important to report all of your experiences to the dentist and have your dentures adjusted or relined as your gums change. I am assuming you are wearing immediate dentures.

One reason foods may taste different has to do with the condition of your mouth prior to having your teeth extracted- if you had gum disease issues and or decayed teeth, the taste of food had been altered for some time for you. It occurred slowing so you did not notice it. Now with your new teeth, you may be tasting food as it is supposed to taste. Also, the healing of your gums will affect taste as the taste of blood can be quite strong and the sloughing off of dead skin cells as the healing is taking place.

I do not have implants. Full removable dentures here
