Are metal spokes showing at front of teeth necessary on partial denture for bottom teeth?

I had a fitting for a partial denture recently- 2 back bottom teeth on one side and 1 on the other. Metal. And there are two metal spokes sticking out at front of my teeth, one on each side of my mouth, which I am told are necessary to hold it in place – is this correct? I am conscious that they may show and they seem terribly ugly. Or maybe this is a cheap and nasty version?
not sure if this is how to answer but thx for responses- yes would prefer implants and can’t afford them at present!

They are clasps to hold the denture in place or they will loosen. You can ask your dentist to have it placed some where else where it is not visible.
